Who is Jesus?

Many people all around the world ask: who is Jesus? It’s like you can’t get away from this question, all through history and all over most of the world, many people are asking: who is Jesus? Some people call Him a good man, other a wise man, some call Him a prophet. But the question remains: who is Jesus? I will today tell you who the Bible says that Jesus is.

First of all we can read the Old Testament. In Exodus God appears to Moses in a burning bush and He says: I am who I Am. The Name that God gives to Moses, the Name for God, is I Am, in Hebrew Jahve. “I Am” means that God exists, always has existed and always will exist, and that God doesn’t change, He is the same.

In John Jesus time and time again calls Himself “I Am”. Jesus says: I Am the Good Shepherd. I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Jesus also says: I Am, before Abraham was. Jesus says that He existed even before Abraham, and Jesus uses the Name for God to say who He is: I Am.

The Name I Am is powerful. In John the temple guards come to arrest Jesus, and Jesus asks: who are you looking for? They say: Jesus of Nazareth, and Jesus says: I Am, and the temple guards cannot stand, they fall to the ground. When Jesus speaks His Name, His enemies fall to the ground.

In Exodus 6 it says: God also said to Moses, “I am the LORD. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by My Name the LORD I did not make Myself fully known to them.

This means that another Name for God is: the Lord. The Name Jahve, I Am, was so Holy to the Jews that they would not say it, so they called God “the Lord”.

Philippians 2:9: Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

In these verses, the apostle Paul describes the life of Jesus on earth, how He was with God the Father, became a man, humbled Himself and gave His life upon the cross, and therefore God the Father has exalted His Name so that every knee must bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord. So what does it mean when Paul says that Jesus is the Lord? All over the Old Testament God is called the Lord. It means that Paul says that Jesus is God.

We must remember that Paul was a Jew. For a Jew to say that a man, a human being, was the Son of God was blasphemy, and Paul hated Jesus and His followers, he persecuted them and killed them.

But on his way to Damascus he met Jesus, and just a few days later he started to preach that Jesus was the Messiah. Jesus Himself proved to Paul that He was the Messiah, the Son of God. Only Jesus and the Holy Spirit can give that revelation to a mans heart. God has opened up your spiritual eyes, you are born again! You are a true believer in Christ. You truly believe that Jesus is The Lord, Jahve, “I Am”. only the Holy Spirit can reveal this to a person.

What more does the Bible say about Jesus? Luke 1:30

30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

These verses say that Jesus is the Son of God, that Jesus one day will be King and that His Kingdom will last forever. Jesus is King already today, Jesus reigns in the Kingdom of God. One day Jesus will rule also over this world, and in a way Jesus already does, because He sits on the right hand side of God the Father and to Him has been given all authority, all power, in Heaven and on earth.

Jesus is Almighty. The Devil is no match for Jesus, He can defeat him in a moment, but Jesus waits to judge all that is evil in this world because Jesus wants every one to have time to repent. When Jesus comes back to defeat His enemy the Devil the time is up and there will be no chance to repent. That’s why Jesus waits, because He wants all people to be given time to hear the gospel and so be saved.

in the book of Revelations chapter 19 Jesus is called the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Jesus is truly a King, but like no other king. The kings of this world, like Putin, Trump and the others, they speak hard words, they threaten and they are looking for power for themselves.

But Jesus is a much, much greater King than they are. There is a Majesty and honor about Jesus like no king or president of this world. Jesus always speaks the truth, He cannot lie. Jesus is also Almighty, He can do whatever He wants to.

But still Jesus is so kind, so loving, so slow to anger and wrath. Yes, there is something called the wrath of God, so don’t tempt Jesus or fight Him, but Jesus is still so willing to give grace, peace and forgiveness, if you only ask Him to. Jesus is a King, but full of Grace.

In Matthew 16:13 It’s written: When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Peter here calls Jesus for the Messiah. The Messiah was to be someone sent by God to set the people of Israel free from their enemies, and the Messiah was not to be an ordinary man, He was to be the Son of God. But most people in Israel didn’t understand that Jesus was the Messiah, because they expected a king like king David that would defeat the Romans with a sword and an army. But Jesus delivered us from much more dangerous enemies than the Romans. Jesus defeated death, Jesus delivered us from sin and Jesus defeated the Devil. All these three deadly enemies are defeated by Jesus Christ on the cross, and all you have to do is to believe in Christ. The word Christ is the Greek word for Messiah.

Jesus Christ will One Day step down from Heaven on a white horse. He will be accompanied with all His mighty angels, and with all His saints, with Moses, Elijah and the apostles. Jesus will defeat and judge all His enemies, but deliver and save all His children. You must make a choice on whose side you want to stand: as a friend of Jesus or as His enemy. There is no third alternative. You must choose. Jesus will force no one to love Him and follow Him, but He invites you today to stand on His side, to be saved and have Eternal life in Heaven.

The Bible clearly says that Jesus is the Messiah, a deliverer sent by God to set people free from their slavery in sin, that Jesus is a teacher and a prophet. That is all true. But the Bible says that He is more than that. It says that Jesus is the Son of God, the Lord, that Jesus is “I Am”.

Then, who do I say that Jesus is? I also say and I know that Jesus is the Lord, the Son of God.

Now the question is: who do you say that Jesus is? One day every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus is the Lord. All the mighty and powerful men of this world will have to bow before Jesus. Putin, Trump, they will all have to bow and say: Jesus Christ is the Lord! You and I will also have to bow.

But many people will bow against their own will, they will be forced to bow, because during their lifetime they would not bow and not confess, and if Jesus will have to force you to bow you will be lost. There will be no chance to change your mind after you die or after Jesus comes back. It will be too late.

But if you bow here on earth, by free will, as a choice, and receive Jesus as your Lord and your Savior, if you confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, that He is the Son of God, you will be saved and live for Eternity with Jesus in Heaven. There you will be singing, dancing and rejoicing forever, there you will never again cry or even feel sad. So now it’s your own choice.

Romans 10:9: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

This means that if you with your heart believe that Jesus is alive and with your mouth confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, you will be saved and you will have Eternal life in Heaven.

Then, Who is Jesus? The Bible says that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, Jesus is the Lord. I too believe it. Who do you believe that Jesus is? It will determine if you will be given Eternal life. Amen.
